Composite bonding

Composite bonding offers a quick and easy way to mask discoloration and alter the shape of teeth. Bonded restorations generally last for 5 to 8 years, during which time they can be repaired if necessary. Maintaining good oral hygiene and at-home care will influence the life expectancy of these restorations.

Porcelain veneers

One of the most exciting techniques in cosmetic dentistry today, porcelain veneers allow us to change the shape, size and the colour of teeth by bonding a thin porcelain veneer to their surface. Because porcelain doesn’t stain like composite, these veneers remain pristine for a much longer period of time. In addition, gum tissue tolerates porcelain well, thus reducing the likelihood of developing gum problems. The application of porcelain veneers requires two clinic visits and costs more than conventional bonding.

Porcelain crowns

Porcelain crowns provide another way to alter the size and shape of teeth, or to strengthen and maintain their structure. Teeth with large fillings and/or root fillings are structurally weaker and can break with biting. They may have subtle cracks that make them tender to bite down on, or be very sensitive to hot or cold temperatures. Our dentist can tell you which of your teeth would be best protected by crowns before these problems develop. A crown will protect a heavily filled tooth. The cosmetic aspect of the crown can mask stains and change the shape and/or size of the teeth. Generally speaking, they last longer than the porcelain veneers. They do require two visits, just the same as the porcelain veneers. On the first visit, you will have temporary crowns made and fitted by the dentist while the permanent ones are being created by the dental technician.
